In its sixty year history, the Cannes Film Festival has been filled to the brim with spectacle, rivalry, controversy and of course, great movies. From its post-war beginnings in 1946, having been delayed by the war itself, we see how the festival attracted the biggest stars to its shores including Errol Flynn and Brigitte Bardot in its early days through to the current crop of Hollywood superstars.

Episode 1 - IN THE BEGINNING

The festival is established as a response to Mussolini's control of the existing Venice Film Festival. It becomes an inspiration to a generation still recovering from the impact of WWII by attracting the biggest stars of the time including Grace Kelly, Elizabeth Taylor and legendary director Orson Welles. Its reputation spreads worldwide alongside that of its most famous regular visitor, Brigitte Bardot.
