This multi award-winning farcical comedy forms part of a trilogy from renowned Belgian director, Lucas Belvaux. The other two films that complete the trilogy are Cavale and After Life, both of which are also available to view on CinéMoi.
An Amazing Couple sees Alain, a hypochondriac convinced that he is suffering from an incurable illness, caught up in a web of lies that provide the perfect premise for a farce. Unaware of the real roots of his eccentric behaviour, his wife, Cécile, jumps to the conclusion that he is having an affair and employs Pascal to spy on him. This only leads to more confusion and misunderstanding and, before long, the situation escalates to crisis point.
The nature of the three films is very different. However, Belvaux’s unique style of filming is evident in all three as he challenges the rules and limitations of genre and presents the dark sense irony that marks all his work.
Although this film is indeed hugely entertaining and rewarding in its own right, it is complimented further by the remaining two films that form the trilogy, which run parallel to this one and in which the central characters can be found from an entirely different cinematic perspective.
