Insightful drama set in the wake of the 7/7 terrorist attack on London as two very different strangers come together in their search for their respective children. Ousmane is an African migrant worker living in France,
while Elizabeth Sommers superbly portrayed by Brenda Blethyn lives in Guernsey. Both parents, journey to London after receiving no news from Ali, Ousmane’s son and Jane, Elizabeth’s daughter to find their children had been living together as students at the time of the attack. With the common hope of finding their children these two intriguing characters from two very different cultural backgrounds create an alliance offering their two lost souls strength.
The characters offer an intelligent, dignified performance illuminating a common experience between the Muslim and non-Muslim worlds. French-Algerian director Bouchareb of Days of Glory creates an awkward truth in exploring multicultural relations after the tragedy. Sotigui Kouyaté’s depiction of Ousmane, is so sensitively conceived awarded him a Silver Bear at the 2009 Berlin Film Festival, where London River premiered.
