A Hollywood and a fashion heavyweight give us insight into their new films; Morgan Freeman for Invictus and Tom Ford in his directorial debut A Single Man.

Invictus is the screen adaptation of John Carlin’s novel, Playing the Enemy: Nelson Mandela and the Game That Changed a Nation. The film is as epic and emotional as the title suggests at it reconstructs post-apartheid leadership under Nelson Mandela (Morgan Freeman). Mandela co-operating with the South African rugby team leader François Pienaar (Matt Damon) tries to use the 1995 Rugby World Cup as a symbol for South Africa’s united future. Those interested in how acting legend Morgan Freeman tried to embody one of the greatest men in our times should not miss this interview.

Tom Ford’s first venture from fashion design to filmmaking has been highly praised for its striking cinematography and poignant substance. A Single man, an adaptation of Christophe Isherwood’s eponymous novel, centres on a day in the life of a middle-aged British professor (Colin Firth) coping with the death of his partner, Jim (Matthew Goode). Audiences have been enthralled with this film since its debut at the Venice Film Festival, where the film enjoyed a fantastic reception. How did Ford get it so right the first time round? In the House seeks to find out just that.
