Preying on the fear and desperation the Holocaust created, Dr Marcel Petiot uses his profession to trick fleeing Jewish families, promising them refuge in neighbouring Spain; however, instead of asylum Petiot instead liked to drug his unsuspecting victims and deliver them to their deaths via his coal-shed.

Known previously for his predominantly comic roles, Michel Serrault excels in the title role, and convincingly climbs into the skin of one of France’s most evil serial-killers, delivering a truly nuanced, chilling portrayal of the deranged real-life Doctor.
