The horrors police captain Malinowski faces on a daily basis at work become tragically personal when the abused body of his nine year old daughter is found in the woods.

Known pedophile Daniel Eckmann is arrested and confesses, however, from prison he writes to Malinowski, contesting his innocence and fingering another culprit who he claims will strike again. With the seeds of doubt sprouting, Malinowski defies his colleagues and wife to lead a one-man counter investigation in his search for the truth.

A policeman for twenty years at the infamous Quai des Orfèvres (the French equivalent of Scotland Yard), Franck Mancuso drew on his experiences to write high-octane, gritty police thrillers, most notably the hugely successful 36 quai des orfèvres (2004) with Gérard Depardieu and Daniel Auteuil. Counter Investigation marks his directorial debut, which delivers criminal intrigue with an emotional punch in the vain of Clint Eastwood’s Mystic River or Sean Penn’s The Pledge.
