Sam Peckinpah’s The Wild Bunch meets the gritty Parisian streets in Yves Boisset’s surreal Shakespearan tradegy. With an opening ode worthy of Peckinpah, Boisset’s bloody scene introduces Jimmy: a gangster-on-the-run (Lee Marvin), who barely escapes the violent ambush. One botched robbery too many and Marvin’s Jimmy Cobb really is on his own. Fleeing with a couple of million dollars, the French police hot on his trail, Jimmy buries the money in a neighbouring field, and takes cover in a nearby farmhouse. Slowly befriending the family who’s land he’s hidden on, he quickly comes to realise he may be safer with his pursuers, but by this time there’s no escape from the family’s clutches...
