Une liaison pornographique

Une Liason Pornographique is a good example of why you should never judge a film by its title. Fonteyne gives us a sensitive portrait of an older women’s relationship with a younger man that begins purely sexually and develops emotionally, potentially jeopardising the lovers’ separate private lives. There is a mixture of intimacy and mystery as the film focuses entirely on the lovers, yet we never learn the characters’ names and their feelings are only truly revealed through interview sequences. You will find stellar performances from Natahlie Baye and Sergi Lopez, whose sensitive persona will surprise those who are familiar with him as playing the odious Fascist in Guillermo del Toro’s ‘Pans Labyrinth’ or the sinister titular character in Domink Moll’s ‘Harry, He Here’s to Help’.
