Each year Elisabeth Delerue (Romy Schneider) and her daughter Cécile (Bénédicte Bucher) go to the resort of Vittel for a holiday of pure relaxation and pampering. The setting is perfect: a picturesque town, friendly people, a luxurious hotel and spa. With all this spare time on their hands, both mother and daughter find themselves being respectively courted by the mysterious Italian man, Giovanni, and the young hotel cook, Georges.

An icon of the Nouvelle Vague, Jean-Claude Brialy (Le Beau Serge, Une Femme est une femme) turned his hand to directing in this luscious holiday film. In a way seemingly known to the French only, Brialy perfectly evinces the rhythm, pace, sights and sounds of the hot long summer vacation (we think of Eric Rohmer’s summer-set films, including Le Genou de Claire starring Brialy himself). With glorious photography, an enchanting score and another understated yet enthralling performance from Romy Schneider, Un Amour de pluie reminds us of France’s beauty and will have you yearning for the resplendent Provence!.
