Labelled by Matisse and Picasso as, ‘the father of us all’, Paul Cézanne will forever be considered the artist who changed the rules of art. His post-impressionist works, so powerfully unlike anything previously produced, were the advent for change from the 19th century’s conception of artistic endeavour, into a radically different new world: the 20th century and Cubism.
Cézanne’s work is revered for its repetitive, sensitive and small brush strokes, building up to form complex fields while exploring the theme of geometric simplification.
