This fantastical comedy follows the small town story of narcoleptic Gus (Guillaume Canet), a thirty-something struggling to hold down a job due to his crippling medical condition. However, while asleep he is transformed into Klopp; comic superhero. His wife Pam (Zabou Breitman), formerly the popular girl at school but now a wistful manicurist, and best friend Lenny (Benoît Poelvoorde), a karate fanatic obsessed with Jean Claude Van Damme, form Gus’ wacky entourage. The peaceful life of these characters is altered when Gus begins to transform his dreams into comic books much to the interest of his scheming therapist and a shady publisher.

Canet (The Beach, Rivals, Tell No One) offers displays his capacity for comic timing through hangdog Gus in comparison to his usual leading roles as a heartthrob. He is ably abetted by Breitman’s high-strung turn, another exuberant performance from François Bérleand, and Benoît Poelvoorde, who offers further claim to the title of French cinema’s (granted he is Belgian) greatest comic star by revelling in a riotous role as the irrepressible sidekick (pun intended).

A humorous and heart-warming piece, Tristan Aurouet and Gilles Lellouche have conjured up a magical mix of comedy and drama, social realism and dream-like fantasy, never exploiting the main narcoleptic concept to facile comic ends.
A unique yet catchy score fully composed by electro-maestro Sébastien Tellier (whose songs have been used on Lost in Translation and Ugly Betty among others) and a classy cameo from Mr Van Damme himself make this zany adventure a cinematic treat not to be missed!
