Director Christian Carion (The Girl From Paris) is in the spotlight to discuss his latest film Farewell, a tense, fact-based political thriller starring two actor-directors: Guillaume Canet (Little White Lies) and Emir Kusturica (Underground, Time of The Gypsies). The film also has small parts by American actors Willem Defoe, Fred Ward and Diane Kruger.
Set during the height of the Cold War, Farewell follows the correspondence between the American government and the French Intelligence service, which alerts them to a Soviet spy operation.
The film owes much to the other highly acclaimed Cold War-set film The Lives of Others, with its palpable atmosphere of suspicion and paranoia. And with fantastic performances from both Canet and Kusturica, it’s hard not to feel engrossed in the action from the moment the film begins.
