Cinémoi talks to revered filmmaker Benoît Jacquot about his critical success Villa Amalia (2009), marking his fifth collaboration with leading lady of choice, Isabelle Huppert. Villa Amalia follows Ann, a musician whose life is thrown into turmoil when she witnesses her lover kissing another woman. With her music and a friend to comfort her, she sets off for an island to find the Villa Amalia. Isabelle Huppert (The Piano Teacher, White Material) is near pitch-perfect as the lonely woman who escapes the life she thought she knew, and who embarks on a journey of self-discovery. In this interview we learn more about Jacquot’s working relationship with Huppert and what it was like to direct her for fifth time.
